BIG Wall Donates Artwork to Habitat for Humanity

United by a common purpose to connect and improve the community, BIG Wall Décor is proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity. BIG Wall Décor is donating artwork to the Habitat Homeowners program so they can decorate new homes with massive, stylish art. 

When single-mother of 4, Crystal found out she had been selected  for the Habitat Homeowners program, she was thrilled.

“Prior to becoming a Habitat Homeowner, my 4 children and I were living with my mother in a small 900 square foot house. What Does Habitat for Humanity Do?

Since Habitat for Humanity International began in 1976, the non-profit has provided safe and affordable shelter to over 39 million people.

Habitat for Humanity serves in over 70 countries. They build new homes, repair old homes, and provide natural disaster relief.

One of the most powerful ways Habitat for Humanity supports communities and empowers families is through their Habitat Homeowners program.

What Is the Habitat Homeowners Program?

Habitat for Humanity partners with the community to build new homes for families in need.

Access to safe, decent, affordable housing is a barrier for families striving to provide a healthy and stable environment for their children.

Habitat for Humanity is on a mission to make sure everyone has a decent place to live.

How Does the Habitat Homeowners Program Work?

Families on a path to building a better life for their children apply for a Habitat Home through their local Habitat for Humanity branch.

Families qualify for a Habitat Home based on three criteria:

1. Their need for better housing.
2. Their willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity and work alongside volunteers.
3. Their ability to pay an affordable mortgage.

The family selection process is nondiscriminatory. Neither race nor religion is a factor in approving families as recipients of Habitat Homes.

How Are Habitat for Humanity Homes Paid For?

Habitat Homeowner’s Responsibilities

Sweat equity is the initial investment that Habitat for Humanity requires of their Habitat Homeowners. It’s an opportunity for the family to work alongside the Habitat for Humanity volunteers. In doing so, the family becomes invested in their new home and their community.

There are many ways families can contribute sweat equity to their Habitat Home, including but not limited to:

• Assisting with building their home.
• Cleaning their home construction jobsite.
• Volunteering at a Habitat ReStore.
• Performing administrative tasks for their local Habitat for Humanity branch.
• Making lunch for volunteers building their home.
• Participating in homeowner classes.
• Documenting a disaster preparedness plan.

Families who participate in the Habitat Homeowners program pay a fair, affordable mortgage.

These mortgage payments go to Habitat for Humanity to fund more Habitat Homes.

Community Help

As a non-profit organization, Habitat for Humanity relies on community support and donations.

Habitat for Humanity relies on volunteers. Volunteers construct most Habitat Homes. Volunteers also run Habitat ReStores and other Habitat for Humanity programs. 

Local businesses and corporations, small and large, partner with Habitat for Humanity. They provide the funding and materials needed to build Habitat Homes.
