Have you ever experienced a moment that took your breath away, snapped a picture only to be totally underwhelmed when you looked at it later? The feeling of that moment is still there, but the visual aspect isn’t. Those moments are what inspired me to pick up a camera and learn as much as I possibly could. My name is Scott Wilson and I caught the photography bug in early 2017. While my interest initially lay in capturing beautiful landscapes, my passion has spread to urban, street, aerial, and portrait photography. This hobby has brought so much joy to my life over the past few years and I am excited to see where it takes me.

“There is no better feeling than standing under the milky way on a clear night, or starting your day with an amazing sunrise in one of the world's most beautiful places, capturing it in a photograph so that you can revisit that memory for the rest of your life.”

Q&A
What is your goal with your artwork?
My goal has always been to explore and experience new places at times when most people are sleeping. Sunrises and astrophotography have always motivated me because of the stillness of the moments and the perspectives captured in the low light of night or early morning.
Who/what are your biggest creative influences?
Chris Burkard, Max Rive, Jude Allen, and AndrewOptics.
Do your current or past locations influence your artistic choices?
Yes absolutely. I’ve always enjoyed capturing photos of the places I’ve traveled, but the passion I feel now was kicked into high gear on a trip to Norway and Iceland. I remember being there and working tirelessly to capture the places I visited, but I really had no technical understanding of my equipment, or how to frame an image. After that trip I poured all of my free time into learning more and developing my skills. It all came full circle when I visited Iceland a 2nd time a few years later, and was able to see the progress I’d made visually in my images. It continually motivates me to see improvement and learn more.
What projects are you currently working on?
Unfortunately, life has gotten in the way of pursuing new projects as I work full time and photography is my hobby that I fit in when I can. The last year has been exceptionally busy, but I am looking to re-start my photography journey in the coming months. I’m going to continue with landscape photography but looking to expand into sports photography and portraits so that I can offer my services across multiple industries.
What other hobbies do you have?
My hobbies go in cycles, but outside of photography they include golf, mountain biking, hockey, spending time with friends and family, etc.
What brands represent your personal style?
I consider myself to be pretty brand agnostic, but most outdoor adventure brands fill my closet including Patagonia, Mountain Hardware, and The North Face along with streetwear from Nike, RVCA, and Roark.
Without capturing a quality image, no amount of editing or planning will bring that photo to life.
1. Lightroom and Photoshop
2. Sony A7rii and A7iii
3. Apps like Photopills to plan shoots
4. Google Earth to scout locations
