Pop Wall Art: Decor for the Pop Culture Fanatic

What Defines Pop Culture Wall Art?

Pop art began to grow in prominence during the 1960's in New York City. Highlighted by popular artists Andy Warhol, and Roy Lichtenstein who were an important influence on this shift in modern art. The subject of their art became far from traditional "high art" themes of classic history. Rather, pop culture wall art is characterized by an interest in popular culture. As a result, each piece expresses imaginative interpretations of celebrities, cartoon characters, and commercial products.

The pop art movement ushered in a new and accessible approach to art. Using commonplace objects, pop art aims to solidify the idea that art can be drawn from any source. The incorporation of commercial images, has resulted in this art form becoming one of the most recognizable styles of modern art.

Pop Culture Wall Art in Home Décor

Pop art is provocative and daring, bold and colorful interior style. Home décor with these themes was born as an expression of freedom. Using this concept, pop art has strongly influenced interior decorating ideas with numerous home decor designs. Such as, the use of flashy colors, and an abundance of décor items throughout your home.

It is recommended to use this style if you are looking to add a splash of color, a touch of modernism, or an expressive look to your home environment. This is a trend that begs to be noticed. There are a variety techniques that can be used to add a Pop Art theme in your own home.

Technology and Modern Pop Artists

Modern artists have benefited greatly from the advancements in technology. Different software and devices have allowed for artists to create in ways they weren't able to before. Programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, and Artweaver have shaped the way artists create. Plus, updates to the technology happen regularly, so that artists can produce more creative works of art.

Artists such as Michiel Folkers and RS Artist have perfected this style in their own unique way. Similarly, both artists incorporate many celebrities and public figures such as Marilyn Monroe, Muhammad Ali, Tupac, Jimi Hendrix Brigitte Bardot, and James Dean.

Folkers, based in the Netherlands, has a more abstract approach to his pop art. His focus is to bring a variety of elements together, in order to create one image.

“I am always trying to force the viewer to see one image instead of seeing all the loose parts." - Michiel Folkers

Alternatively, RS Artist's pop art relates more to a style of street art. He meets the challenge of removing street art from it’s urban environment, while maintaining the socially relevant themes paramount to the art form.
