Background

Warakami Vaporwave is an American digital artist whose work is heavily influenced by Pop Art, retro aesthetics, anime, and Japanese visual culture. Exploring themes of nostalgia and modern reinterpretation, their work reimagines vintage imagery through a contemporary digital lens. By upcycling nostalgic elements into bold, stylized compositions, they create striking vaporwave-inspired artwork designed for modern visual culture and contemporary wall art.

“I love exploring new ways to upcycle nostalgia into new designs.”

ARTISTIC TOOLS

Adobe Photoshop, Pencil, Ink & Paper

I use Adobe Photoshop, pencil, ink and paper. All of my illustrations and abstract calligraphy lines start on paper with pencil or ink first. It feels the most natural for me and I get the best result starting traditionally. I'll then bring those designs into Photoshop to create the final digital designs.

Q&A

I don’t have a specific goal in mind, I just have ideas of what I want to make and do my best to do as many of them as I can. What drives me is always trying to learn new things and improve my skill.

I’m always working on a lot of things but the main project I’m working on right now is inspired by 80s/90s era recordable VHS tape packaging designs.

As a former game developer it’s nice to be able to play games again without it feeling like work. I also like to run, catch up on anime and do research for my Japanese streetwear blog.
