Chen replaces his sprawling fields of color with a singular, amorphous orb of intense marigold yellow and cadmium orange that floats just above the sea-green plane. This floating sun or blossom is animated by delicate, whimsical mixed-media marks: an angled charcoal hook on its upper right, fine scribbled wire-like lines on its left, and three rhythmic grey dots floating away into the empty space like musical notes.
